L’Estère, also known in Haitian Creole as Lestè, is a commune in Haiti’s Artibonite Department. It is located in the fertile Artibonite Valley and is known for rice farming, local trade, and its position along Route Nationale 1.

History & Heritage

L’Estère is historically important because the Battle of Ravine-à-Couleuvres took place nearby on February 23, 1803, during the Haitian Revolution. The area was reestablished in 1908 and officially became a commune in 1984.
