Ranquitte, also known in Haitian Creole as Rankit, is a rural commune in Haiti’s Nord Department. It is located in the Saint-Raphaël Arrondissement at the foothills of the Northern Mountain Range and is known for agriculture, mountain valleys, and community traditions.
Ranquitte was officially founded in 1857 and was formerly known as Ranch Chiquito, meaning “small ranch.” The area was once part of Grande-Rivière-du-Nord before becoming connected to the Saint-Raphaël region and later developing its own municipal identity.
Life in Ranquitte is strongly connected to farming, livestock, local commerce, education, religion, and community development. The commune is known for coffee, lime, pineapple, orange production, and cultural events such as the Saint-François d’Assise festival.
