Gros-Morne, also known in Haitian Creole as Gwo Mòn, is a rural commune in Haiti’s Artibonite Department. It serves as the administrative seat of the Gros-Morne Arrondissement and is located along Route Nationale 5, about 20 kilometers northeast of Gonaïves

History & Heritage

Gros-Morne was formerly known as Cité Poltron and has a long history connected to agriculture, the Haitian Revolution, and local resistance. During the revolutionary period, Toussaint Louverture occupied the town, and the area later became known for its courageous defiance against French forces.
