Terre-Neuve, also known in Haitian Creole as Tenèv, is a rural commune in Haiti’s Artibonite Department. It is located in the Gros-Morne Arrondissement, about 24 kilometers north of Gonaïves, and is known for its mountains, fertile valleys, and rural settlements.
Terre-Neuve is one of the older communes in the Artibonite region. It existed before 1789 and became officially recognized as a commune in 1821. Its history is connected to agriculture, local trade, mining, and Haiti’s early administrative development.
Life in Terre-Neuve is mostly rural and centered on farming, livestock, local markets, religion, and community traditions. The commune produces crops such as peas, corn, millet, yams, cassava, mangoes, avocados, oranges, and bananas.
