La Chapelle, also known in Haitian Creole as Lachapèl, is a commune in Haiti’s Artibonite Department. It is part of the Saint-Marc Arrondissement and is known for its rural communities, farmland, mountain terrain, and connection to Route 11 and Route 115.
La Chapelle began as a rural military outpost near the Artibonite River. The area later grew around the village known as Quartier de la Chapelle, which officially became a commune on July 3, 1889.
Life in La Chapelle is strongly connected to agriculture, religion, local markets, football, community gatherings, and rural traditions. The commune produces crops such as bananas, mangoes, coffee, sugarcane, and vegetables, and celebrates its patronal feast on January 10 in honor of Saint-Guillaume.
