Savanette, also known in Haitian Creole as Savanèt, is a commune in Haiti’s Centre Department. It is located in the Las Cahobas Arrondissement near the Dominican Republic border and is known for clean surroundings, fertile land, rivers, and natural water sources.
Savanette was formerly known as Savaneta and was once part of Las Cahobas. It separated from Las Cahobas in 1873 and officially became a commune in 1935, giving it its own local administration and identity.
Life in Savanette is strongly connected to farming, livestock, coffee production, local commerce, religion, community organizations, and cross-border trade with Hondo Valle in the Dominican Republic. The commune is also known as “La cité de l’eau” because of its many springs, lagoons, and rivers.
