Boucan-Carré, also known in Haitian Creole as Boukan Kare, is a commune in Haiti’s Centre Department. It is located in the Mirebalais Arrondissement in the Central Plateau and is known for its mountain valleys, farmland, rivers, and rural communities.
Boucan-Carré was settled in the 1700s and was formerly known as Chambeau. It became a district in 1946 and was elevated to commune status in April 1985 after separating from the greater Mirebalais area.
Life in Boucan-Carré is strongly connected to agriculture, livestock, trade, markets, churches, Vodou traditions, and community life. The commune produces crops such as maize, beans, cassava, yams, plantains, sweet potatoes, coffee, peanuts, sorghum, mangoes, bananas, and avocados.
