Acul-du-Nord, also known in Haitian Creole as Akil dinò, is a commune in Haiti’s Nord Department. It is located about 32 kilometers from downtown Cap-Haïtien and serves as the seat of the Acul-du-Nord Arrondissement.
Acul-du-Nord was first known as Port Saint-Thomas after Christopher Columbus entered the bay in 1492. The area was later renamed during the French period and became a commune in 1740, with deep roots in TaÃno history, colonial settlement, and the early northern slave revolts of the Haitian Revolution.
Life in Acul-du-Nord is strongly connected to farming, fishing, livestock, beekeeping, local trade, religion, and community life. The commune produces coffee, fruits, rice, honey, and other agricultural products, while local churches and historic neighborhoods remain important parts of daily life.
