Acul-du-Nord, also known in Haitian Creole as Akil dinò, is a commune in Haiti’s Nord Department. It is located about 32 kilometers from downtown Cap-Haïtien and serves as the seat of the Acul-du-Nord Arrondissement.

History & Heritage

Acul-du-Nord was first known as Port Saint-Thomas after Christopher Columbus entered the bay in 1492. The area was later renamed during the French period and became a commune in 1740, with deep roots in Taíno history, colonial settlement, and the early northern slave revolts of the Haitian Revolution.
