Limonade, also known in Haitian Creole as Limonad, is a coastal commune in Haiti’s Nord Department. It is located about 12 kilometers east of Cap-Haïtien and is part of the Cap-Haïtien Arrondissement and northern metropolitan area.
Limonade was settled in 1676 and has deep TaÃno, Spanish, French, and Haitian Revolutionary history. The area is linked to Fort Navidad, one of the earliest European settlements in the Americas, and later developed as an important colonial and agricultural town.
Life in Limonade is strongly connected to farming, commerce, education, churches, local markets, and coastal living. The commune is known for banana groves, cornfields, grazing land, sugarcane history, and the Université Roi Henri Christophe campus, which gives it a strong role as a university town.
