Limbé, also known in Haitian Creole as Lenbe, is a commune in Haiti’s Nord Department. It serves as the seat of the Limbé Arrondissement and is one of the main cities of northern Haiti, located in the fertile North Plain along the Limbé River.
Limbé was settled in 1715 and has deep Taíno, colonial, and revolutionary history. The area became important during the French colonial period for sugar plantations and later played a major role in resistance, maroon activity, and the Haitian Revolution.
Life in Limbé is strongly connected to agriculture, trade, education, religion, local markets, sports, and community life. The commune produces rice, mangoes, coffee, bananas, fruit, honey, timber, and other agricultural products, while its river valley supports farming and local commerce.
