Bas-Limbé, also known in Haitian Creole as Ba Lenbe, is a commune in Haiti’s Nord Department. It is located in the Limbé Arrondissement near the Atlantic coast, Baie d’Acul, and Limbé Island.
Bas-Limbé was formerly part of the Limbé commune before becoming its own municipality in 1976. The area’s history is connected to Limbé, French colonial conflict, and struggles between colonial forces and enslaved Haitians.
Life in Bas-Limbé is strongly connected to farming, fishing, livestock, local markets, Vodou traditions, churches, community organizations, and coastal living. The commune produces coffee, bananas, mangoes, rice, cassava, peanuts, beans, maize, and other fruits.
