Baptiste is a mountain commune in Haiti’s Centre Department, located in the Las Cahobas Arrondissement near the Dominican Republic border. It is known for its cool highland climate, coffee production, farming communities, and strong local identity.
Baptiste was formerly part of Renthe Mathe, the first communal section of Belladère. After years of local advocacy, it officially became a commune by presidential decree on July 22, 2015.
Life in Baptiste is strongly connected to coffee farming, local festivals, religion, schools, sports, agriculture, and community organizations. The commune produces coffee, lemons, mangoes, beans, maize, vegetables, bananas, citrus, avocados, and root crops.
