Cerca-la-Source, also known in Haitian Creole as Sèka Lasous, is a commune in Haiti’s Centre Department. It is located on the border with the Dominican Republic and is Haiti’s easternmost commune.
Cerca-la-Source was settled in 1898 and later received municipal status in 1918. The area is historically connected to maroon communities, resistance against French colonial rule, and Haiti’s struggle for independence.
Life in Cerca-la-Source is strongly connected to farming, livestock, local markets, religion, Vodou traditions, and cross-border trade. The commune produces crops such as maize, beans, cassava, sweet potatoes, coffee, lime, and sugarcane.
