Maïssade, also known in Haitian Creole as Mayisad, is a commune in Haiti’s Centre Department. It is located in the Hinche Arrondissement in the Upper Central Plateau and is known for agriculture, market trade, rural communities, and its central location between nearby towns and villages.
The name Maïssade is believed to come from “Maisal,” meaning “land full of corn,” showing the commune’s long connection to maize farming. Maïssade was historically part of the Hinche area and later became its own commune within the Centre Department.
